AA Ski and Snowboard Steamboat Training Camp
AA is hosting their annual training camp at Steamboat Springs. ALL NAASF Members and GUESTS are welcome. PLEASE go to aaskisnowboard.com and RSVP or send a message directly to Jim Tullos See their website at https://www.aaskisnowboard.com/steamboat---dec.html Here is the AA Ski/Snowboard "Hot Sheet" "Ski Town USA" Steamboat Springs AA TRAINING CAMP 8-13 December We are a little over a month away from our first ski week of the 201-20 Season. Steamboat is ready for AA and our guests. I’ll cover some of the “basics” for Steamboat in this newsletter, but rest assured, we will send a final “hot sheet” with all the final “deals” and last minute info the week before Training Camp. SNOW CONDITIONS Steamboat already has “some” natural snow and the temperatures have been conducive to making snow the past week or so. This is a great sign. Snowmaking temps are usually late November, but they are ahead of the game this year. FREE SKI/SNOWBOARD RENTALS FOR “NEVER EVER” SKIERS or RIDERS Powder Pursuits has offered FREE Rentals to any NEW skiers or riders. If you are NEW to snowsports this is your chance to learn at a greatly reduced price. If you have skied or snowboarded in the past, please don’t take advantage of this generous offer by trying to “work the system”. GETTING TO STEAMBOAT Unfortunately AA will not begin service to Steamboat until after our Training Camp. The easiest place for AAers to Non-Rev to is Denver although Eagle Vail is an option. If you feel lucky, you can also ZED on UAExpress to Hayden. Remember Eagle and Hayden have very limited service this time of year and if the weather is questionable, it’s quicker to drive. If you arrive in Denver, I suggest getting with your room/condo mates and renting cars/vans. The other option is to call "Go Alpine". If you ask for a NAASF (North American Airline Ski Federation) discount you can save money. Go Alpine requires a reservation so don’t show up thinking you can grab a ride. Go Alpine Reservations 970-879-2800 Toll Free: 1-800-343-RIDE (7433) LODGING IN STEAMBOAT The AA Ski and Snowboard Club has superb rates at the Steamboat Grand which is directly across the street from the gondola base area. They also have a FREE ski and boot storage area for owners and guest in the base area. The Grand offers a variety of room options. Most combine a living area with either one or two bedrooms. The living area will have at least one (sometimes more) sleeping options (i.e. a sleeper sofa or built in futon type) and a full bath. The bedrooms joining the living area usually gives you the option of one King Room with a fireplace and private Jacuzzi OR a standard hotel room with two Queen beds. You will have the option of almost any combination of those three rooms (Living/Kitchen area alone, either bedroom alone, OR Living/Kitchen area with one or two bedrooms) There are also Penthouse options, if you want to get a large group together. As The Event Director (TED), I will be doing room pair for anyone that doesn’t have, but wants a room/condo mate. Just give me a call. Steamboat has provided us a link for you to make your own reservations.. https://groups.steamboatgrand.com/Ecomm/Package/PackageBuilder/3735661/?packageid=43848&promocode=American . 1. You will need to input your reservation data 2. click “check availability” 3. click “change” in the middle of the page 4. click “Package Price” to see all options. If you have problems with the online system, please call The Steamboat Grand reservation number at 877-306-2628. Our Group Code is “American Airlines Ski & Snowboard Team”. RIDES and ROOM/CONDO MATES If you need a ROOM or CONDO MATE please indicate that on your RSVP. Next week I will begin “pairing” those looking for partners. The same applies to RIDES. If you need a ride or if you are offering a ride, let me know and I’ll match drivers up with passengers. LIFT TICKETS Lift ticket prices vary based on the number of days (obviously the more you ski the less you pay per day) 1 Day - $77 2 Consecutive Days - $75/day 3 of 4 Days - $55/day 4 of 5 Days - $55/day 5 of 7 Days - $55/day 6 of 8 Days - $55/day 7 of 9 Days - $55/day LESSONS/TRAINING Steamboat has offered their top credentialed coaches for our Camp. They will divide you into small groups (usually 5-7) of very similar ability and interest. You will ski 5 hours each day with your coach and class. Video Analysis will be offered throughout the week and you can have unlimited NASTAR Timed Runs (snow conditions permitting). For the race oriented club members, there will be GS, SL, and Snowboard gate training. All levels of skier/rider are welcome. The “never-ever” skiers/riders will be enrolled in Steamboats world class Snow Sports School. At this time of year, there is a high likely hood you will get virtually private lessons. There is not a better way to start your season and/or to improve your skiing. The cost is only $93/day. KIDS VACATION CAMP The AA Training Camp is Family Friendly. If you have smaller children (3 ½ to Kindergarten) they can participate in the Kids Vacation Camp. They will get time on the snow and time indoors as is appropriate for younger children. If you have kids 6 mos to 6 years that don’t or can’t ski/ride you can opt for Childcare. Either option is will cost $125/day/child. If you have children older than 5, they can enroll in Snow Sports School for the same low price as the adults or $93/day. REGSITRATION This year early and late registration will be in the Main Ticket Office. If you arrive Sunday afternoon (or earlier), I strongly suggest you register upon arrival. Don't wait until Monday Morning if you don't have to. Monday Morning Registration will be in the BASE CLUB (next to the outdoor ticket windows). They will have 5 windows open so registration should go smooth. Go register and then come to breakfast in. REMEMBER TO BUY YOUR TEAM DINNER TICKETS WHEN YOU REGISTER !! This year we are asking everyone to stop in to Powder Pursuits, shop, get outfitted, Say "HI" and "Thank You" to the Powder Pursuits crew. Afterwards we will migrate to a watering hole that is yet to be determined (remember the part about the final Hot Sheet a week before camp?) The "awards" will be for those that race on Thursday and earn NASTAR Medals. We will also give "awards" for funny things that have happened during the week. To make this work, I need "dirt" (funny things) about what you, your class mates, or especially your coaches have done that might be funny or embarrassing.
